Viet and Michelle were married in her parent's home, here in South St. Louis. They had a traditional Vietnamese ceremony with the groom's processing bringing gifts are betel, fruit, cakes, a roast pig, fabric, and jewelry for the bride. The permission ceremony was followed by the formal tea ceremony, advice given by the family and the exchange of rings. It was all spoken in Vietnamese, so new to me and I didn't understand a word of it, but I had a lot of amazing guides helping me understand what the day would bring and beauty of Vietnamese culture. Afterward, we were asked to dine with the family, a feast including roast pig, and other traditional Vietnamese foods. I tried jellyfish salad, duck tough and pigeon before the night was through.In the afternoon Michelle changed into her Western wedding attire, stunning us all again with a beautiful white beaded, lace gown and veil. Then at the evening reception, held at Mandarin House, Michelle donned third dress, flowing and soft, made for dancing! And dancing there was! After a ten course dinner, there were toasts, and cake cutting, karaoke, mostly sung in Vietnamese, and lots of dancing! It was a thrilling day, full of firsts for me. It was an honor to be a part of Viet and Michelle's celebration and to experience such a fantastic array of color and food and language different from my own traditions. It will long be one of my fondest days. So thankful for the opportunity to shoot such a glorious day.
